Facts and stories behind the songs in no particular order

BOTTLE TRAIN
Words & music: Lasse Forsberg
Live premiere: Elvert Under Ground, 19 January 1991 at Kopparkitteln, Sigtuna.

I wrote this song in the autumn of 1990 after reading lots and lots of old traditional British/Irish lyrics and poems and I thought “I can make up a myth of my own! Where does an old drunk go when he turns up his toes?” The melody of the chorus was first used in a song called “Emerald Eyes” which I wrote back in 1986 for my then band Midnight Act. The intro of Bottle Train is nicked from Aly Bain’s version of Hangman’s Reel (You can spot it right there at 2 minutes 33 seconds in the You Tube link below!) and, of course, the intro of Stay Free by The Clash! The ending is nicked from Don’t Let Me Down, Gently by The Wonder Stuff! Hup!

OFF TO DAVEY JONES
Words: unknown. Music: Ola Broquist
Live premiere: Elvert Under Ground, 8 July 1993 at Lucky Luke Saloon, Tallinn, Estonia.

I found this eight line poem in a book one day at the library of Sandviken. I gave them to bass player Ola Broquist (Elvert Under Ground) and he composed the music the very same day. Great song!

ANOTHER POSTCARD FROM PÔRGU
Words & music: Lasse Forsberg
Live premiere: Elvert Under Ground, 9 October 1992 at Tre Backar, Stockholm

This is an attempt to write a postcard from The Soviet Union to my family in Sweden. Elvert Under Ground made their first tour of Estonia (Soviet Union) in the summer of 1991. On board the ferry from Stockholm to Tallinn we met four Norwegian fiddlers who knew “The Devil’s Dream”.
